Timing is Everything…Trust the process

I’ve always heard this phrase throughout my life.

I don’t think I’ve believed it enough.

I think essentially, you believe it when it’s after the fact.

After

You work on that story that sat for a few weeks or a year.

After

You realize you can’t write a certain scene, blog, or article. You put it aside for another time.

After

You learned something from what you read about the craft of writing, or you had a “moment” that gave you an idea for your story or piece that you are working on. You feel thankful for this moment because you needed this to help you move forward.

After

You keep neglecting your writing because of life, or you're tired, or simply just taking a break without admitting it to yourself. And that’s ok! It's hard to accept that when it’s happening.

After

You get back into reading. For me, a different vision of inspiration to write after I read a book always hits me differently. It’s a new motivation…I can do this too!

After

You stare at a blank outline with a title on it for weeks, months, or days. Then, suddenly, you shock yourself writing something because so much time has gone by that you doubted yourself all that time. Just like this blog I am writing right now!

When the words flow out, you realize everything has a time and place!

EVERYTHING!

The process of accepting it is a journey within itself. It could be tomorrow, next month, or next year.

I often think of and reflect on a specific poem I wrote a while back, or a story I was focusing on for a couple of months last year, or this blog and others I haven't started yet, although they already have titles.

“Not yet,” I say to myself.

It will come when it’s time.

And here I am writing this blog, no outline or brainstorming needed today. Well, I started the outline a couple of weeks ago! But, initially, I titled this and others a couple of months ago. Yes, I stared at the blank white page and kept putting it away.

So, the takeaway?

Let your writing flow as it comes along, don’t stress it or overthink it.

Just always remember, timing is everything.

Just keep writing!
